Will we see a U.S female President in the next 50 years?

I know it's hard to see in the future, but do you believe you'll ever see a female U.S President in the next 50 years or so. A lot of people didn't believe we would have a black President and now we do.

How much of an impact would it make if there was a female as the President of the United States?

    Thoughts and explanations?

Yes, more than likely there will be. 50 years is a fair time.

There has also been a marked increase in women entering politics and holding positions of high office in the past 25 years or so. I doubt it will be ever a 50/50 m/f split but maybe oneday females will make up a third or so. The more entering the more probable it will happen.

    Good thought out answer Bananas.

    I'd like to add two more questions to this thread;

    1) Would you like see a female become U.S President in your lifetime?

    2) Do you think a female as U.S President can be successful?

Yes, it is only a matter of time before we see a female president. Just in the last election, Hillary Clinton was really close to winning the Democratic nomination over Obama. And Sarah Palin was close to being vice president and was extremely popular with a lot of voters.

I wont answer the question directly. Considering that politics is a male dominated world of influential and powerful people it takes a certain type of female (as it does male) to make it to the top.

If you look at those who have reached the top f the game; Thatcher, Merkel, Tymoshenko, Clinton, Rice, McAeese etc... they are all very resiliant, hardlined and slightly stubborn. They all handle the pressure in a unique manner that in some respects gets the job done. I often feel that the goal posts are a little clearer with the focus and drive to deliver on them even more so. I think a female leader can often get jobs done where few men fear to tread.

It's sounds rude, but we're in an age where this country is at least comfortable electing a half-black president, I think our country will most certainly hit that milestone within that time period. However, I just hope we're not stupid enough to vote Palin in.

To be fair there were plenty of people to substitute Obama into that sentence back in the last election if the question was "Will we see a minority President". Just saying.

And yeah I think we will see a female president in the near future. Maybe not immediately but the country is obviously open to the idea based on previous candidates that have done well. By 2020 I think it's a guarantee.

I just hope the country wants to see a great president first and a woman president second. I would hate to see people voting for somebody just because "Now is our chance to have the first woman president!"

In the last election Hillary said we don't have a problem with racism in elections, we have a problem with sexism. I can't remember the specifics, but I remember she made some good points and that Obama got a free pass on things because it wasn't PC to criticize some things about him. His relationship with Rev Wright comes to mind as one. I think we will see a woman there, but there are still hurdles to overcome.

Almost certainly. 50 years is a really long time, and more women will probably run after seeing Hilary do so well.

Another thing is women now decidedly out-number men in higher education. So, in 20-30 years most aspects of society may be ran by women or at least equally so.

Although I think a woman will eventually be president in the next half-decade, I'd like to point out that I'm extremely skeptical of how that election will go, given how much petty shit Obama had to (and still is) deal with not just during but well after his election.

I think the US will see its first female president even way before 50 years. Othe countries have been doing this for decades. It's about time the US catches up. And I hope the same thing for France.

    1) Yes. It's seeing history, the way I like that I was able to witness the US' first minority president.

    2) I think she can be but I can see major adjustments she has to deal with (or the country) because never before has there been a female president. I think male to female is a bigger change than white male to black male.

Maybe some protocols need changed; there'll be issues with commanding respect. This reminds me of commander-in-chief show with Davis (a president and a mom to young kids, dealing with macho mentality) What about dealing with foreign countries whose leaders don't even allow their females to be seen in public, how much will that mentality affect having to deal with a female and negotiate?

I agree with this. Obviously if more women enter into politics, the more chance there will be a woman president.

The demand for stopping sexism and all that is pretty big now, and has been for quite some time. I think we're right near the peak of having a woman as a president.

Sarah Palin!!! ;) Well, she lives in hope... and if she is elected she will probably be the first and last. Hopefully, we would have learnt our lesson by then!
